Celeb dating online: Lindsay Lohan looking for love on the Internet
Wednesday

Troubled actress-singer Lindsay Lohan is looking for a lover who does not mind her alleged alcoholism or other repelling habits, she revealed in a mock Internet dating profile.

Lohan, whose recent breakup with her lesbian partner Samantha Ronson has been covered by the media, stars in a dating profile posted online Monday on the celebrity and millionaire dating site Millionaire Cupid, reports the China Daily online.

"I would define my personality as creative, a bit of a night owl, I'm a workaholic, a shopaholic and according to the state of California, an alcoholic as well as a threat to all security guards if they work at hotels," she said.

Free online dating: Plenty of Fish and Other Free Dating Sites: Good or Evil?

While there are a lot of dating sites on the Internet that charge for membership, free dating sites are becoming more and more common. With the ease of using a website to meet other people interested in hooking up in real life or online, are more people straying from committed relationships? Do free dating sites just add to the problem of divorce? These are questions that come with the rise in free dating sites.

With so many struggling in the current economy, free online dating sites are becoming more popular all the time. One of the largest free dating websites (PlentyOfFish) boasts that they receive over a billion pageviews a month. As you might imagine, that's quite a lot of money even if the website is making only pennies per page view. The question, though, is whether PlentyOfFish and other free dating sites should have a responsibility (either morally or legally) to help protect people that use their websites to find and meet people in the real world.

The Gun or the Shooter?

Should free dating sites like PlentyOfFish be compared to a gun - only bad when they're misused by people? To take that analogy further, you could ask yourself what type of gun it would be. For instance, is it a gun with a safety (a site which checks registrations and ties people - via credit cards - to accounts) or is it one without a safety that could "go off" at any moment? Is it an automatic (can people sign up for more than one account?) or semi-automatic (there are limits to the number of accounts people can make.)

There are a lot of questions surrounding free online dating and whether or not they're simply a tool capable of being misused or if they're something that's contributing to the breakdown of American relationships. The truth most likely lies somewhere in between the two.

In the future, it may be important for free online dating sites to help verify members and hold them accountable for trying to ruin people's lives. For the present, though, more and more people are jumping online to use free social sites like PlentyofFish to find people to meet in the real world. With that in mind, here are some tips for online dating.

Ethics of Online Dating

While it's pure speculation to say whether or not sites like Plenty of Fish contribute more to good or evil, people like Founder and Chief Executive Markus Frind are growing richer by the minute by creating tools that allow people to "hook-up" very easily. Should there be accountability for websites that offer this type service?

With stories like the recent Craigslist murder hitting the airwaves and the Internet, people should strive to be even more cautious with their personal information online. One of the best things you can do to protect yourself is to only give out information to people you trust. How to build up that trust? Here are a few good ideas to follow:

* First Steps First - All communication should be kept online at first. Through the website's means of communication will most likely be your first means of contact. This first impression will tell you a lot.

* Email - After you've made first contact and have decided if you want to pursue anything with the person, you should exchange email addresses. Be sure to use one that doesn't identify you personally.

* Phone - After email goes well for a while, it's natural to progress to phone conversations if both parties are agreeable. You should remember that this is very personal information, though, and should only be given out to people you think you can trust.

* Public Meeting - After phone conversations go well for a while, meeting in a public place is the recommended next step.

* And then? - After that, it's pretty much up to the consenting adults. That said, if you're married or are in another relationship, you should make the other person aware of this. This could be a deal breaker for them if you are. Honesty is the best policy.

As you can see, there should be a natural progression when you're meeting someone online. If someone tries to jump from step 1 to step 5, there might be a potential problem in the future. Is PlentyofFish good or evil by providing a free service that has the potential to be misused? The answer may be different for all of us. Does it come down to whether the website is considered a "hook-up" site or a legitimate online dating or matchmaking site? What are the exact definitions for those two types of sites?

As you can see, even the hint of answers leads to more questions. As more and more answers to these questions are found, it will be interesting to see if any laws are put onto the books to control and protect people who use free online dating services to hook-up or try to meet their soul mate. Until then, it's best to approach any site on the Internet with your guard up and your eyes open, releasing personal information slowly and carefully, especially on free dating websites.

Dating guide: Oline dating tips for the face-to-face meet of your date

With the most romantic day of the year quickly approaching, you've decided Valentine's Day is the perfect occasion to meet that special someone. For those of you new to online dating, post a photo that shows your best smile and have fun with a witty tagline. Add a unique profile about your favorite things and what you like to do in your spare time, but avoid disclosing private information like your name, where you live or work, or how much money you make. Sharing private details like this could make you a target for scam artists. For single parents, don't share information about your children until after you get to know the person with whom you are communicating, including any photos with you and your children.

For online daters who have already met someone fantastic and are ready to meet face to face, this is the chance to get all your friends in on the fanfare! After all, who better to share your anticipation with than your favorite pals?

Ask for your friends' help picking out a perfect outfit. Wear something that is comfortable and makes you feel great, but nothing too revealing or suggestive for the first meeting. Also, keep your friends posted on all the fabulous details - everything you've learned about your significant other like their name and cell phone number, where you're meeting your date, and what time you plan to be home. For all the savvy ladies shopping for a new clutch to go with your outfit, be sure it's big enough to hold essentials like a cell phone, change for a payphone, a list of important family and friend contact numbers, and cash or a credit card in case of emergency.

Remember to make your meal reservation early! You have your choice between tons of incredible restaurants, complete with staff dedicated to making your Valentine's meal unforgettable. An afternoon or early evening meal is perfect and the restaurant is sure to be bustling with fellow lovebirds. Arrive a little early so you have time to calm down before your date arrives. If available, valet parking is great since it's a safer, more visible place and you don't have to deal with the hassle of coming or going. Also, it removes the awkward post-date "do we take each other to our cars and kiss" scenario.

When your date arrives, keep the conversation lighthearted and fun. Stick to general topics like hobbies and humorous travel anecdotes. Steer clear of sharing information like where you live and work or weekly habits like where you buy your groceries. Also, if your newfound interest gives you a sob story about how they're struggling financially and need to borrow a few hundred or thousand dollars, do not offer to help, no matter how wonderful they seem or how heartbreaking their story. Financial scam artists are often charming and convincing. They frequently prey on older online daters, but now you know their game so you can hold your own by saying, "I'm sorry to hear about your hardship, but I cannot give you any money."

You're an incredible, intelligent catch. Therefore, first and foremost take care of yourself. If you don't enjoy your date's company or feel uncomfortable, you don't have to stay. Have a restaurant staffer safely escort you to your transportation. On the other hand, just because your date was as sweet and charming as you expected does not mean you owe them a night over at their place or an invite to yours. Take things slow. There will be plenty of time to learn more about each other.

Whether you're new to online dating or a seasoned pro about to meet your online interest for the first time, happy dating from the Safer Online Dating Alliance!

Dating guide 101: How to use the online dating service? Singles, look here!

Considering trying an online dating service? Singles, chat rooms, dating tips.

If you have not tried online dating as yet then its not easy to know how to begin. A lot of singles we spoke to have indicated that the hardest component is write your online dating profile. Altering from the truth can be a simple option to use in your dating profile, rather than what you might determine the reader wants to read. You should try to be up front with your online dating profile in any case, the majority of other online daters who are on the internet will have particular things about themselves they also don't like. Honesty will get you there in the end and most potential online dates will appreciate this when you see them in person. Try not to short-change yourself. Don't lower your standards if you're lonely, have just split up with someone or just feeling down in general. Patience, a game plan and being truthful will see you succeed when engaging online dating services.

Weigh up your past relationship. Think about what you liked and didn't like, also stick to what you believe in. If certain issues bothered you with your previous partner eg: they smoked inside or used offensive words, don't accept it from a new romantic interest hoping that their better features will overcome these issues that deep down really upset you.

Something that's important and quite common we think of doing while looking for potential online dates is to ask questions, but probe gently, carefully and cautiously regarding their past. What they like or don't like, what they want out of a new romantic relationship etc. Move slowly it's not hard to move ahead of yourself in the whirlwind of a new potential love interest, especially if your keen to progress to the next level. Also, ask to view pictures of the person in their everyday lives. Looks shouldn't be the most important aspect, although the reality is that you want to make sure that all of the boxes are ticked to avoid disappointed when you meet face to face.

A single friend of mine met a guy once through an internet dating site - travelled three hours by bus and train. When she laid eyes her online dating friend at the destination she was shocked by the noticeable difference between his profile and real life appearance and as a result has been put off by online dating and chat rooms. The profile shots were not current and had been taken in a photography studio. The reality of the profile and real appearance were totally different. This is the most common way to fail at online dating. Even though face to face my friend was not attracted to her online dating friend, someone else probably could have been, so by not being honest in his profile both people could have been using this wasted time getting to know other people.

Many of us look different to everyone else. It will not mean that we all look gorgeous to everyone. Chemistry plays a big part, so be sure that you have this in check prior to meeting up, or at the least a foundation to work from. Don't always meet up after your first online chat, exercise patience to avoid disappointment. It's a bonus if you both have things in common. You should try to avoid spending your time convincing a potential date that marriage and having kids is what they should be aiming for. You could both get resentful over time. So be honest from the beginning, then you can be sure to have a more successful and happier online dating and chat experience. Don't forget one last important factor, when you've found the right person and you start a new romance, cancel your membership. Exchanging secret emails from other singles is no way to start a new beginning.

Dating guide: be ware of the online dating safety tips before your face-to-face meet
Tuesday

the following article lists some simple, informative tips that will help you enjoy a better experience with online dating.

Long hours at work with even longer hours in traffic leave most of us with almost no social life and therefore no way to date anymore. Due to the fact that everything is done online today, it is with little surprise that online dating is so popular. However, online dating can be very dangerous as well and we need to ensure our safety before we venture out on a real time date with an online friend. Here are a few online dating safety tips, which will hopefully be helpful to you.

Safety First

On the internet, you can be whoever you want and it is not only the looks that you can forge but also the background, qualifications, age and marital status. It is very hard to be sure that anyone is telling the truth online simply because they don't have to; for most it is another reality which they create in order to escape from the present one.

Don't rush a meeting with someone online; take your time to know him or her as much as possible; the longer you spend online the harder it will get for him or her to maintain a fake identity. Request a recent photo and ask for credentials as well as ask him or her if you can verify the same. Some dating sites created many verification systems to help users identify the identity of other members. On wealthychats.com, users can verify photo, age, income, education and occupation, etc. You will feel more secure if your date has a verified photo and income.

If you have decided to meet your date face to face, always meet in a public place for coffee or lunch as opposed to a late night dinner. Another online dating safety tip, which will help you is to let your family or a close friend know that you are going on this date and ensure that they will check on you to make sure you are all right. Carry a mobile phone with you and make sure it is charged.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I'm sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

Other Online Dating Safety Tips

Do not take your date back to your place on the first date and even on the next few others if you don't feel fully comfortable with the same. Spend time learning about one another and find out basic things that you can check to ensure if he or she is telling the truth.

The best online safety dating tip in order not to get hurt in the process is to try and know the person first before you jump in to a relationship. Remember you don't want your heart broken or worse you don't want to get hurt in any way so it is best to take the relationship slow until you know as many details as possible about the person that will make you comfortable with him or her.

If you are dating through an agency read their online safety dating tips and ensure that they provide you with all details possible. Nevertheless, take your own precautions because they can not assume all the responsibility for your safety on the date.

Now you can be a confident expert on a dating. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on a dating.

SeekWealthy.com: Online Dating is Dead.

Here's an interesting bit of news that isn't really gadget related but still deserves to be addressed.  According to SeekWealthy.com, dating is now dead.  Hooray!  So - when is the funeral?  May I throw the first shovelful of dirt onto the coffin?  I've been waiting for this day for a long time, after all.

Unfortunately, this news is not quite what it seems.  Dig a little deeper (or just read the site name) and you'll discover that SeekWealthy is less of a traditional "matchmaking" site and more of a golddigger's dream come true.  The site's aim is to lure successful, wealthy men into joining.  The women then declare open season on the wealthy men.
